Adventures take two!
Our summer continues to be very busy. Michael spent a week as a counselor at HUG Camp at Tower Hill in Sawyer, Michigan. They had a great week weather wise and from what I've heard, things went fairly well. Joshua, Raegan, and I went to pick him up on Saturday and spent a little time at the beach. At first, Rae didn't want to get in the water, but eventually made her way in for a little swim. She had more fun playing in the sand with Nana and Uncle Alex. Joshua didn't seem too bothered sitting in the sand and getting splashed by waves. Hopefully he'll be my little swimmer.
One Friday night, we decided to check out the Joliet Slammers baseball game. It was Disney night and once Raegan heard that, she was ready to go! Auntie Julie joined us and it turned out to be a great night for Joshua's first baseball game. We sat in the lawn and cheered the team on to a win. Raegan didn't seem to be too scared of the mascots, but they also didn't come too close to us. After the game there was a great fireworks show. Not too bad a night for just $5 a ticket! We plan on going back and bringing more people with us.
Another baseball related adventure was to U.S. Cellular for the Grinder Bash, which is a party for the season ticket holders and we were invited as guests to go with Grams, Auntie Julie, and Uncle John. We got to walk the field, sit in the dugouts and see the Sox home (as Rae put it). It was a warm day, but we managed to survive.
As the summer winds down (yikes...) we are looking forward to having many more trips and adventures. Hopefully we will make the most of the time left before school starts. My brother Scott is getting married in 5 weeks so we are preparing for that. Raegan is going to be the flower girl and both Michael and I are standing up.
Michael is busy with cross country practice in the mornings and after that, he heads to school to get in a few hours of work. He recently was offered a he position as the programmer. He basically schedules all the classes for the kids at his school. It's not so much of a promotion, but it is something that every school needs, so something of a job security. He will still be teaching yearbook, which I think he is really happy about. This means no lessons to plan or papers to grade; just one deadline that hopefully won't come as so much of a surprise this time around.

Three months young
How quickly the time flies when you are sleep deprived and super busy chasing around a two year old! Our little man is now 13 pounds 8 ounces and around 25 inches long.
He is a ticklish boy who giggles whenever touched. It is such a cute little laugh that spreads a smile across Michael's and my face. Joshua is full of stories to tell, especially to his animal friends. He has discovered his hands recently and is now able to pull toys towards him in his car seat and bouncy. Sleeping through the night is still not a regular thing, but he's a good napper during the day, so I still manage to get a break in there. As I am typing this, he is working on rolling over and even got up on his knees for a second; this little guy is gonna be trouble! He even managed to flip over while in the sleep positioner, which is suppose to keep him in one spot. So much for that!
We also tried a little rice cereal with him to see if that might help him sleep a little longer at night. He was quite happy to try it, but really was unsure what to do with it. We'll try again in a week or so, but he is actually sleeping a little longer at night lately.

Two months
Greetings from our big boy! At JP's two month check up, he weighed in at 12 pounds, 10 ounces and was 23.5 inches long. He is more than a pound heavier than Rae was at this age; he's my little budda baby! He is in general a very happy baby full of smiles and almost giggles. He will tell you a story better than anyone, but sometimes those stories get a little sad :). Tummy time is great and he's even rolled over several times, although not quite consistent yet. His toys and surroundings are becoming more and more interesting to him; he is beginning to grab and pull at things that hang above him.

Summer adventures
Happy 4th of July from the Shunts!
The summer season is officially under way. We have been dealing with scorching temps, but have managed to still have fun through it all. We spent the fourth of July with family watching fireworks at Maine East high school. Raegan loved them and kept pointing out which ones were her favorite (all colors at one point) and wanted to know which ones we liked too. Joshua didn't seem too bothered by the noise probably because he got to be held so much. We also enjoyed watching to parade in Des Plaines. Raegan collected so much candy I think we will be passing it out for Halloween :). The one thing she didn't like was the costumed people. This is why we haven't made it to Disney yet! After the parade, we bbqed at my grams house and made up a new game of frisbee sprinkler. Basically turning a friendly frisbee throw into a challenge and a way to stay cool all at once. We had a couple of long days and I am ready to get back into our routine.

Another adventure we took was down to Grant park and Navy Pier. Raegan saw the giant ferris wheel and merry go round and instantly wanted to go on both. Out of all the animals, she wanted to ride on the bench...go figure lol.

One month
Well, one month has come and gone and we've all survived Joshua's arrival. Upon arriving home from the hospital, we tried to settle into a new routine. I quickly discovered that the word routine is not yet in a newborns vocabulary. Having said that, I tried as best I could to keep Raegan on what is her schedule. The first week home with both of them was a little difficult. My recovery from the c-section was not as smooth as the first time around, so I really needed to take it easy. Let me tell you, taking care of a two year old and newborn while trying to take it easy does not happen. As much as I hate to ask for help, I really needed it.
Our first weeks home were filled with visitors which helped keep Raegan entertained and me sane. It is not fun being stuck at home with no car and two kids. Our first big adventure was when Raegan, Joshua, and I stayed at my parents house overnight because I had to go to the doctor the next day. All involved survived (Joshua even slept fairly well that night).
After the first couple weeks, we settled into a non routine basically just going with the flow of when the little man needed to eat and basically having him sleep whenever. At five weeks old, we have already had our first smiles from him. It really makes everything worth it in the end; even the screaming fits and refusal to go back to sleep at 4am. He seems to be very strong, holding his head up for a while and we swear he's gonna be crawling very quickly.
Joshua's one month stats: 22.5 inches and 10 pounds 8 ounces. He is the same length as Rae was, but has 8 ounces on her.
